Westbury Choral is preparing to strike a new chord next month with the arrival of a new musical director.
The group is set to welcome Matthew Bale at the start of its new term on Wednesday 10th September at Westbury Methodist Church. The evening marks the beginning of rehearsals for Fauré’s Requiem, which will culminate in a relaxed “Come & Sing” performance in October.
“Matthew has had a long and varied musical career and has many new and exciting ideas to bring to Westbury Choral,” said committee member Jane Lever.
“He was a Bristol Cathedral Chorister and went on to the Royal Academy of Music. Since then he has worked as a professional musician, playing both piano and harpsichord and conducting choirs and orchestras, including a memorable 23 years as musical director of Bath Choral Society.
“Earlier this year, Matthew moved from Pembrokeshire to Westbury, and Westbury Choral is fortunate to have him and his expertise to help us enter a new chapter.
“Please come along and meet him at the start of our new term where we will be starting rehearsals for Fauré’s Requiem. This will be performed as an informal Come & Sing event in October.
“Matthew really enjoys working with community choirs and he operates on the basis that everyone has a singing voice, saying, ‘There is nothing quite like singing in harmony and exploring the wonders of great choral music’.
“If you have ever wanted to experience singing in a choir, this is a wonderful opportunity and you’d be very welcome. New members and visitors may have two free taster rehearsals to see if they wish to join us.
“We look forward to welcoming new members on Wednesday 10th September, at 7.30 pm at our usual rehearsal venue, Westbury Methodist Church on Station Road.”
