A new family-friendly café has opened its doors in Westbury – and it’s already proving to be much more than just a place to grab a coffee.
Beanstalk Brews, founded by local couple Beth and Kai Pinnell, is a unique play café designed with neurodivergent children, toddlers, and their families in mind.
Located at Palomino Place, the café offers good quality food and coffee with inclusive play spaces and support for parents and carers navigating early childhood.
“We both felt there was a real need for a place where you can enjoy great coffee while your young children have somewhere safe and fun to play,” said Beth.
The café, which has already developed a loyal following for its quality food and locally-sourced coffee from Clifton Coffee in Bristol, features a thoughtfully designed play area filled with toys, communication boards and low-sensory zones.
A dedicated sensory room has just opened offering a calm and relaxed space for children and there’s also a therapy room on site, where professionals, including Beth herself, offer speech and language support.
“The front section, which is a regular café rather than a play area, has been a huge success – even more than we expected!” said Beth. “We now have some lovely regulars who come in especially for our cream teas.”
Beth and Kai are from Westbury; Kai grew up in the town, and Beth moved to the town in 2015. As parents of young children themselves, they saw first-hand the need for a space that welcomed all families.
“We absolutely love the community,” added Beth, “and we wanted to create a cosy play cafe where families can relax, connect and play; somewhere that is genuinely supportive.
“As a speech and language therapist, I saw how important it is for families to have an inclusive space where they can connect and chat informally with professionals if they’d like to. That’s what inspired us to create this welcoming space for local families.
“We’re now introducing support groups too – including meet-ups for new parents, SEND parent groups, sleep support sessions and more.”
