A RECENT Ofsted report for Matravers School in Westbury has said the school ‘requires improvement’. The school, though, has issued a formal complaint to Ofsted.
Matravers School underwent the Ofsted inspection on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th October, with the report published last week, resulting in the school given several areas to work on.
The report says the categories of ‘effectiveness of leadership and management’; ‘quality of teaching, learning and assessment’; ‘outcomes for pupils’ and ‘16-19 study programmes’ all came out at requiring improvements. However, the ‘personal development, behaviour and welfare’ of the students was awarded a ‘good’.
A summary of the key findings, according to the Ofsted inspection, were: ‘leaders and governors do not have an accurate understanding of the school’s effectiveness’ and ‘Leaders do not have high enough expectations of what pupils can achieve’ amongst others. The report identified the school as having strengths in other areas including comments on attendance being in line with the national average, behaviour has improved since the last inspection, pupils are well cared for and supported and they are polite, respectful and personable.
When approached for comment, the school stated, “Matravers School notes the publication of the Ofsted Inspection Report.
“Matravers School will not comment on this report at this stage as we have a formal complaint with Ofsted at present relating to this inspection.
“In the meantime, we will continue to focus on delivering at least national or better progress for all our students as the report acknowledges that we already do.”
Matravers declined to say why it had issued a formal complaint against Ofsted, when asked by White Horse News.
