A WESTBURY primary school is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating for the first time since 2011.
Westbury Infant School, off Eden Vale Road, was awarded the improved status following inspections in February this year.
Headteacher Stacey Budge, who joined the school in 2014 when it was rated ‘Requires Improvement’, has spoken of her pride in the progress.
The report said the school’s leaders had ‘taken effective action to address weaknesses’ which has led to ‘strong improvement in pupils’ outcomes’.
The head told White Horse News, “We are all absolutely delighted with the result. Improvement takes time and the fact that we have accelerated to reach ‘Good’ in time for the next inspection two years later is something we are very proud of.
“This success is a result of team work and has included governors, school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, midday supervisory assistants and office staff.”
The Ofsted report deemed the school – which teaches 171 pupils aged between four and seven years old – to be good in all five categories and said staff were ambitious for their pupils and had high expectations.
It said parents had noticed the improvements in behaviour and teaching, and that staff create an ‘inclusive ethos which values the contributions of all pupils’.
Stacey Budge added, “The improvements to the school affect everyone, but mostly the children. All children deserve a good education and at Westbury Infant School we can now be sure that we are doing well for all our pupils.
“Whilst ‘Good’ is great, it doesn’t mean we are standing still. The inspectors identified many elements of outstanding practice, particularly in our Early Years classes. We will continue to strive to provide the very best standards of education, welfare and exciting, enjoyable learning at Westbury Infant School.”
