The Centenary Commemorations of the First World War and the new series of ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, has inspired many to try and find out more about family members who served in the Great War and their lives at that time.
If you are one of those who want to know more but don’t know where to start, or maybe just need help with the information you do have on them, help is at hand.
On Saturday 6th September the Westbury branch of the Wiltshire Family History Society will be holding an open day at the Westbury Methodist Church from 10.00am till 3.00pm so that anyone interested in taking the first steps, or those already tracing their family members and family history will be able to get help, advice and guidance on the best way to start their search.
Bring along everything you know about your family, focusing on names, dates of birth, marriage and death and places they may have lived, and get practical advice on how to continue your research from members of the Wiltshire Family History Society who will be on hand to help with the research and access to some of the on-line genealogy sites.
Local enthusiast Tony Couldrake will also be in attendance with a selection of uniforms, WW1 memorabilia and the WW1 replica bunker. Admission is free and refreshments will be available, so come along and discover your roots.
Lynne Vercoe, on behalf of the branch said, “Don’t forget the Westbury branch also meets every 4th Thursday at 7.15pm in the Methodist Church. Why not come along and join us for an enjoyable evening, listening to professional presenters, in some great company.”
