FAIRFIELD Farm College has welcomed two Paralympians to help cheer on the students as they compete in a summer of sport.
For the college’s sports day on Tuesday, the students were joined by Paralympian David Hill. David made his Paralympic debut at Athens 2004 at the age of 15, where he competed as a swimmer, reaching the finals in his main event, the 100m backstroke S9.
After retiring from swimming in the summer of 2012, David joined the British para-triathlon squad in 2013 and went on to represent Team GB at the 2016 Rio Paralympics when the triathlon made its debut on the Paralympic programme. David finished tenth in the men’s PT4 event.
Next month, pupils Jordan and Charlie will also be joining David Hill to take part in the Superhero Triathlon at Dorney Lake on Saturday 19th August. The event is described as fun and gutsy, where people with disabilities call the shots and don’t have to worry about cut-off times or equipment restrictions.
Jordan and Charlie will have the choice to do the whole triathlon or just one or two stages as a relay with disabled and non-disabled family and friends.
Joining the college for its Rainbow Shower event on Wednesday 12th July will be Paralympian Kate Grey.
Swimmer Kate represented Team GB at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics before going on to win a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m Individual Medley at the World Championships in 2009.
