WESTBURY Yarn Bombers have been celebrating love this month to mark Valentine’s Day by decorating the post box at the Tesco Express in Westbury Leigh in support of the British Heart Foundation’s Heart Month 2024.
The post box now features a Valentine’s themed crocheted topper of Cupid as well as some smaller crocheted items that people are encouraged to take home as a “random act of crochet kindness”. Those that appreciate the artistic post box topper are being encouraged to donate to the British Heart Foundation.
“We love to create displays that catch the eyes of people as they walk through the town and this is the next instalment of this for our group,” said Marisa Befoh from the group. “Yarnbombing combines a great hobby with the love of helping the local community and the country by raising charitable funds for great causes, and the pieces also hopefully make people’s days that little bit brighter as they spot Cupid on their way to school or work!
“If anyone can scan the QR code and donate to the British Heart Foundation it would be most appreciated.”
Marisa says that the work took her a few weeks to put together and she was helped by Lorna Miller and Claire Davies who helped create more random acts of crochet kindness. Marisa is encouraging people to join the group to support future events.
“If there is anyone that wants to join the group, please do get in contact! We would love more people to create more random acts of crochet kindness as post box toppers, such as the knitted hearts. We will be busy with more events throughout the year, so why not join me on upcoming projects!”
The British Heart Foundation say, “In the UK someone dies from a heart or circulatory condition every three minutes. Whether it’s losing a loved one to sudden cardiac arrest or coping with the devastating impact of heart failure, far too many of us have felt the pain of heart and circulatory conditions. But with your help, we can give more hearts a chance.
“This Heart Month, go red to raise money for lifesaving research. It could be wearing red at work, organising a healthy red bake sale or taking on a sponsored challenge. Or you could learn CPR in 15 minutes free with RevivR. Whatever it takes to help protect the hearts of people you love.”
