BITHAM Brook Primary School have had a busy term for sport with students competing in various tournaments in a range of different sports.
Mr Slater, the P.E coordinator at Bitham Brook reports, “On Wednesday 27th February, we competed in the West Wilts Hockey Tournament at Stonar School. This was the first time we had competed in a tournament which involved learning some rules whilst playing! Our team did very well against some far more experienced teams and finished third in our group.
“The following week on Thursday 7th March, we sent three teams to Matravers School for the Westbury Area Netball Competition which we won for the 11th year in a row!
“Our other teams finished 3rd and 5th. Winning this tournament qualified our team to represent Westbury at the West Wiltshire Finals at Kingdown School on Wednesday 27th March. They were narrowly beaten by Winsley in the semi-finals, but regrouped to win the 3rd/4th playoff game.
“Whilst our netballers were in action in Warminster, we took two Year 3/4 and one Year 5/6 tag rugby teams over the border to Frome to compete in the Clive Lewis Tag Rugby Competition. Our Year 3/4 teams played very well adapting to some rule variations with little fuss and scoring some impressive tries.
“Our Year 5/6 team played some excellent rugby and were very worthy winners. They were also complimented by the referees and organisers for their sporting behaviour and respect.
“Then, on Tuesday 2nd April, our Year 5/6 tag rugby team played in the West Wiltshire Tag Rugby Tournament at Trowbridge RFC. In some pretty appalling weather conditions, we dominated our group, finishing first. That put us into a semi-final against our old friends from Bellefield School.
“A very competent attacking display and some high pressure defending saw us through and into the final against Fitzmaurice who we had drawn against in the group stages. A very tight game which was level at full time went to ‘golden try’ which we finally grabbed after some heart-stopping defending! This team will go forward to the Wiltshire County Finals to be held next term.
“As ever, thank you to parents and staff who help with lifts to events and support our children in exactly the right way – enthusiastically and always positive – whatever the outcome.”
