Pupils from Westbury Junior School spent their summer holiday creating a colourful mural at Westbury Community Project (WCP).
The artwork was created by pupils from TEAM10, the school’s community support group, working alongside Chris Boyes, Community Conversations Lead at Wiltshire Council. They were also supported by Kevin Down and Shirley King from WCP.
“The mural aims to encourage community involvement and cohesion, where everyone works together for a more positive environment and where we celebrate the great work we can do together,” said Susannah Duval, TEAM10 coordinator.
“Before the end of term, the team primed old boards and painted them in the WCP colours. Over the summer holiday, the children created an exciting mural based on ‘The Dot’, a book written by Peter H. Reynolds, which encourages children to do their best and believe in themselves.
“The children had a great time, sometimes in hot sun and sometimes in pouring rain, but they were continuously positive about putting the project together and showed huge commitment to their community in Westbury,” says Susannah.
“Many of the children had moved on from Year 6 at Westbury Junior School but were determined to finish the project and have offered to stay on next year.”
The team are still planning to complete the work with raised planted beds in the community space.
TEAM10 try to support the community in any way they can. If you have a project you would like them to be involved in, contact Susannah Duval on 07901 663017 or susannahduval.smith@westbury-jun.wilts.sch.uk
