A CHARITY race night is to be held in October in memory of a Westbury wife and mother who died from cancer shortly before last Christmas.
Gill Down (pictured), wife of Kevin and mother of nine-year-old Hannah, died in her 40s from bowel and lung cancer on 22nd December.
Gill was treated at the cancer unit at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in the Bath and was a staunch supporter of the Trowbridge branch of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group after attending the branch’s first race night in 2014. As a result, the branch is dedicating this year’s event to her memory.
The race night will be held on Saturday 7th October at the White Horse Country Park near Westbury from 7pm to 11pm. Tickets are £5 each, to include nibbles. As well as the racing, there will be a bar, a raffle and an auction.
Event organiser Marie Brichard-Parsons is hoping to sell 180 tickets or more and so exceed the £3,400 raised by the branch at last year’s event. She is also appealing for donations of items for the auction and raffle,
The evening will again be compéred by Sam Gooding, of Gooding Accounts, Westbury
“Last year’s event was so successful (raising £3,500) that the event has had to move to a larger venue at The White Horse Country Park, Westbury, which will allow up to 200 people to attend,” said Sam.
“Iwould love to hear from anyone wishing to sponsor a race, donate a raffle prize, offer an auction item or most importantly actually come along and support the event on the evening itself.
“Thank you in advance to anyone who offers support, it is truly appreciated.”
Everyone is welcome to attend, tickets are £5 and include nibbles, there is also a cash bar at the venue.
All costs are covered for the evening so every penny raised on the evening goes directly to the charity.
Any support of the evening is very welcome and if anyone wishes to simply donate to the event, there is a just giving page set up at www.virginmoney giving .com/MarieBP73
