WESTBURY will have four additional daily train services as of next week, with extra journeys to Salisbury, Yeovil Pen Mill, and London Waterloo.
The extra services come into effect on Monday 14th December, and are part of South West Trains’ timetable improvements.
The new trains will run from Monday to Friday and include a service from Waterloo to Yeovil Pen Mill, which departs London at 12.50pm and arrives at Westbury at 2.51pm.
There will also be a 5.45pm service from Westbury to Waterloo via Salisbury, and 8.11pm and 9.24pm services from Westbury to Salisbury. In addition to the extra services, passengers will also be travelling on a fleet of newly refurbished trains.
Wiltshire Council’s portfolio holder for transport, Horace Prickett, lives in the area and has campaigned for better public transport.
Cllr Prickett said, “These extra services are amazing for Westbury, and we need to work hard to keep them. South West Trains services are considerably cheaper than the Great Western Railway, and some people will be able to get to London for as little as £16.
“I hope people will take advantage of the new services, because it really is a case of use it or lose it with private railways. The contract for service providers will be renewed in a couple of years and we need to show that services are needed if we want to keep them.”
Tim Shoveller, managing director for South West Trains said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing a much improved timetable for the West of England which transforms the services on offer for many stations and the local communities they serve.
“It includes extra services for the vast majority of stations with improved links to London, a significantly increased frequency of services as well as extra seats at weekends.
“The support of our local stakeholders and communities in developing these plans has been fantastic and we’re looking forward to introducing the new services from 13th December.”
