WILTSHIRE Council has introduced a new recycling scheme where you can recycle a wider variety of materials including food and drink cartons, as well as plastic pots, tubs and trays.
From Monday 30th July, you will be able to recycle more plastic items from your home, using your blue-lidded bin.
You will be able to recycle the following items: plastic bottles, plastic pots, tubs and trays, cardboard, food and drink cartons and shredded paper. Unfortunately, black plastic and plastic film cannot currently be recycled.
Wiltshire Council said, “We want to help you recycle more by increasing the range of materials you can recycle at home. Recycling materials has less impact on the environment than burying them in landfill or burning them to generate energy, so the more we can recycle, the better it is for the environment.
“In addition, it tends to be more cost effective to recycle materials than to deliver them to energy from waste plants or to landfill them.”
Cllr Jane Russ, who has been one of leaders behind making Westbury single-use plastic free told White Horse News, “I am delighted that Wiltshire Council is doing something. However, it is now up to every single person to put in the effort to recycle.
“Over the last three months my household, of my husband and I, were easily filling the bin of plastic over the fortnight. After seeing this, we conciously made the decision to cut back on single-use plastics.
“I only now buy sparkling drinks in glasses and I have found a milk deliverer who delivers in glass bottles. I have also made my own reusable beeswax fabric to replace cling-wrap. It is all about making those conscious decisions to reduce the amount of plastic we all use in our day-to-day living.”
