DILTON Marsh Parish Council’s Remembrance Sunday event has had to be changed to a very different event this year, than those experienced in previous years.
The parish council report, “Having received guidance from the government and Wiltshire Council, we hope to hold a short wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial on 8th November. This will be restricted to the vicar, those laying wreaths, a musician and stewards. A risk assessment will be in place to ensure the safety of those present, with appropriate social distancing being maintained and with masks being worn. Contact details of those attending will be collected and kept for Test and Trace purposes.
“The Government guidance asks you – the public – to stay at home and observe the two-minute silence at 11am in your own way, rather than gathering at memorials. You can watch the ceremony at the Cenotaph in London, which is being shown live on BBC 1. And here in Dilton Marsh, we hope to stream our small ceremony live on Facebook; more information will be advertised about that.
“We appreciate that remembrance is important to our community and believe that this is the best way to pay our respects during these unusual times. These arrangements depend on further government guidance and may be subject to change at short notice.”
