Sat. 3rd Oct. Seend Utd 0 Westbury Utd Res 4
THE first game of the league season and even though the Reserves were missing 5 players through injury, they were quick out of the blocks.
Two minutes into the game, Westbury were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. Everyone was waiting for the cross but new signing Worsfold had other ideas and curled it straight into the top corner to settle any nerves. The Greens dominated possession but a lively Seend side looked capable on the counter attack.
Devanney and Steele both went close to extend the lead around the half hour mark. In the 40th minute a great ball from Whitehead found debutant Devanney in space, who hit a rocket shot from the edge of the box to give Westbury a two goal lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first but it took until the 68th minute before the Greens put the game out of sight when Steele was in the right place to tap the ball home from 6 yards. A few minutes later Steele was at it again when his 20 yard strike took a slight deflection and gave the keeper no chance, to give Westbury a 4-0 lead. With a few minutes to go, Seviour hit a great curling effort that was bound for the top corner until a fine save from the Seend keeper and the score remained 4-0.
