Westbury’s mini revival hit the buffers as for the 3rd time this season they produced a game of two halves.
They played poorly and trailed heavily at the break then did considerably better, winning the 2nd half, in fact they only have themselves to blame for not having a real shot at trying to grab an unlikely draw as a penalty was missed during the 2nd half improvement.
Roman Glass flew out of the blocks and man of the match left winger Tom Sellars crashed in the opening goal from a wide angle after less than 20 seconds!
New front pairing Josh Ferguson and Francois (Shav) Allen were lively throughout and both went close to equalising with well struck shots, however the hosts created a series of chances and it was no surprise when on 29 minutes Sellars outpaced Tony McElhone and crossed to Drew Hamilton-Dunn who applied the finishing touch.
Allen had a great chance to pull a goal back but shot straight at Phil Mills and, with time running out before the break, St George made it 3-0 when Sellars and Chris Astley combined to set up Hamilton-Dunn for his 2nd of the night.
United did much better after the break while also restricting Roman Glass to only a few half chances for Astley. Mills saved well from Jordon Matthews and Mark Young while more fine play from Allen went unrewarded when nobody attacked his low ball into the box!
Allen continued to threaten and when veteran defender Nathan Rudge pulled him down the referee awarded a penalty and a lifeline for Westbury, however Ferguson blazed the spot kick over the bar!
Substitute Ben Forester set up United’s only goal on 82 when his fine cross was met by Allen’s crisp finish and with a sniff of a comeback they went close twice more as Ferguson had a shot deflected wide and Forester headed off target.
