The fifth annual Imber Ultra Marathon, run by the Rotary Club of Westbury and the Avon Valley Runners, will take place on Sunday 11th March.
The 33-mile trail run follows the range path anticlockwise around Salisbury Plain from the Leighton Recreation Centre through checkpoints at Scratchbury, Chitterne, Tilshead, Highland Cottage (Near Gore Cross) and Bratton Gate, returning to Leighton.
On the way, runners pass through some of the most remote parts of southern England, and have even been known to encounter tanks and military vehicles, as well as the challenge of the prevailing westerly head wind for the final 8 miles along the northern escarpment of the Plain.
Runners from as far afield as Launceston in Devon and Abingdon in Oxfordshire have been regular participants, along with many contestants from closer to home. Over 100 competitors have registered so far. The entry is limited to 140 to ensure that the race can be safely monitored and supported.
