Ruby, ruby, ruby! – Slimming World leader collects award

Slimming World consultant Katherine Storey has proved she’s red hot after winning a Ruby Award for her work in helping to tackle obesity in the area.

Katherine runs the Dilton Marsh group at Fairfield Farm College on Tuesdays and a Warminster Slimming World group at the Baptist Church Hall, North Row on a Thursday evening, as well as recently re-launching a Friday morning group. She was delighted to receive the award for inspiring dozens of people in the local community to start losing weight and to improve their health.

The accolade sees Katherine, who has lost three stone with Slimming World herself, become a ruby consultant. The award was created in 2009 to celebrate Slimming World’s 40th anniversary and is given to all consultants in the UK and Ireland who welcome 40 new members to their group in one month.

Katherine says, “More than two-thirds of the adult population are overweight. The groups I run in Dilton Marsh and Warminster are really focused on weight loss and reviving their love of food by eating unlimited amounts of free food anytime of the day or night! All three groups consistently achieve fabulous weight-loss results and the groups have achieved awards for weight loss in the south Wiltshire team.

“Lots of people want to lose weight but they often don’t know how or where to turn for help. When members come to our groups they tell me that they’ve tried losing weight before and it hasn’t worked, so they feel like failures. I reassure them that it isn’t them who failed but the programme they followed, usually because the diet was too strict or because they didn’t get the right support. This leaves people thinking that they can’t do it – that they’ll never succeed with any diet – but members in my groups are!

“Slimming World members follow the club’s food optimising eating plan, which encourages slimmers to make small, easy changes to the way they shop, cook and eat so they make healthier choices and lose weight without ever going hungry or feeling deprived. Each week, as well as weighing in to log their progress, members are motivated for the week ahead by sharing recipes, advice and ideas for coping with challenges.

“I know the thought of joining a group can be daunting, especially when you don’t feel very confident, but everyone’s welcome and we have a lot of fun.

“I’m delighted to have achieved this award. Rubies are known for being beautiful but they’re also one of the hardest natural gems, and that’s what I’m most proud of because I’m taking this award as recognition of how hard I work to support every single one of my members to achieve their weight loss goals. I truly believe I have the best, most rewarding job in the world – there’s no better feeling than helping someone to feel good about themselves – so winning this award really is the (ruby red) cherry on top!”

If you’d like to sparkle and shine like ruby consultant Katherine and her Slimming World members visit the group in Dilton Marsh every Tuesday at 5.30 and 7.30pm at Fairfield Farm College, or the Warminster group, which meets every Thursday at 5.30 and 7.30pm and Friday at 9am at the Baptist Church Hall, North Row. To find out more visit www.slimming world.com or call Katherine on 07887 690800.
