Organiser Tracey Hyde told White Horse News, “It was a really good, family-friendly day with around 200 runners. It was a very hot day so I was panicking about how the runners were going to cope. However, after feedback from last year, we made sure that there was two water stations along the 10k, which people seemed to appreciate. My mum and auntie were there selling their homemade cakes again, which everyone really enjoyed.
“It was great to see so many new faces, with 20 people running their very first 10k! Pauline Sloper, who had never run a 10k race before, finished it with great determination, as her finishing photos showed. But, it wasn’t the easiest of races with the hot conditions, so to have that as your first ever race was hard work.
“Thank you to the Westbury Lions who let us borrow their gazebos and all the families that came to cheer everyone on. The day started at 5am for us organisers and we finished tallying up the results and posting them on Facebook at around 10.30pm – so it was a long day, but we really enjoyed it!
“Rachel Hipkin-Fox, who ran her very first race too, enjoyed it so much that she went straight home and signed up for another one of our events coming up in July – the Bowerhill Bomber!”
The total raised from the event was £604 and was donated to Holy Trinity Church and Dilton Marsh Parish Council in a surprise, which was revealed at the church on Wednesday 30th May. A few ideas were discuss about what they will use the money for, including church roof repairs, donating to the Fairfield Farm College indoor riding centre fund or a commemorative bench.
Redfish events have asked that £100 of the money goes to Sonja Harris, editor of the parish newsletter, to give thanks for her continuous advertising of the Dilton Dash each month.
If you would like to take part in the next Redfish event: The Bowerhill Bomber will be held on Sunday 22nd July, visit www. entrycentral.com/festival/1408 to register for either the 5k or 10k distance.
