THE sailing season is now underway at the West Wilts Youth Sailing Association (WWYSA) in Westbury and the club is on the look-out for more budding sailors to get on the water.
The club, found at the Eden Vale Lake near Station Approach, meets three nights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and it is due to host some taster days in summer for those that want to try sailing before joining the club.
Juley Simmonds, commodore at WWYSA, said, “We were all excited to finally be back on the water, and we had a great time getting used to the boats following the winter break. 18 people turned up and had great fun playing some sailing games and using the skills they learned last year. Members practised some manoeuvres and chased each other around the lake for a bit of fun and revision on sailing the dinghies.
“We are always looking for adult volunteers, and we still have places on our list for any child 8 to 17 yrs who would like to sail. We offer training for our volunteers and are offering to run an adult course over two weekends on Saturday 13th May to Sunday 16th May, and Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th May, 9am to 4pm.
“We also have a Radio-Controlled Club that meet on Thursdays 2pm until 4pm and Saturdays 10am until 12pm. We will be also running a first aid course in the near future; this is also open to anyone who needs a first aid at work or Royal Yachting Association directed first aid.
“We hold community rental days as well where local groups can rent our club and use our facilities.”
WWYSA membership is £30 per year plus tuition fees and course fees as additional costs.
