ON a green looking wicket that normally plays better than it looks, the Westbury captain lost the toss and were invited to bowl first.
The decision by the Biddestone captain looked to be a floored one as Oakley dismissed him with the first delivery of the game.
More misery followed for the home side as they were soon in a perilous position within a short period of time and found themselves 9-3.
The Biddestone batting was showing little signs of resistance and wickets continued to tumble to the openers Carroll and Oakley. At 61-8, Westbury were completely on top and an early finish was looking very likely with the visiting bowlers demonstrating control and pressure throughout.
With increased dominance and a strong fielding display the Westbury bowlers were able to close the Biddestone innings for 84. Pick of the bowlers were Oakley 4-23 and Carroll 3-25.
In reply, Varley and Coles opened the batting. Varley was clearly keen on a very early finish and ensured that the scoring rate was swift and sure. Three early boundaries had the scoreboard moving in the right direction until Varley was bowled for 17.
Coles was uncharacteristically scratchy, falling under the spell of the mercurial bowling of Khan, falling for 3 from 22 balls. This then left the inform Mills and Dickinson to rebuild, but with only 84 to chase the target loomed after only a limited number of overs. After some lusty blows from Dickinson and elegant stroke play from Mills the Biddestone score was surpassed for the loss of just two wickets.
The Westbury Building Services Man of the Match was Richard Oakley for his match defining 4-23. A pleasing result after a run of two losses.
The next fixture is against Burbage and Eastern Royal on 19th August.
