Saturday 14th September Toolstation Western League First Division Westbury United 0 Oldland 0
A hard fought and fierce encounter resulted in a much needed point for both sides after recent poor runs of results.
Home captain and defender Dan Dominy had a commanding match to lead his side to a rare clean sheet, although he had to leave the pitch injured near the end and it is hoped the damage is short lived! Westbury played some good, fast attacking football at times and despite the scoreline there were good chances at both ends throughout the game. Visiting keeper Ryan Perry did well to deny Phil Hampson, Charlie Walton, Simon Millard and the ever threatening Wayne Wheeler on three occasions! At the other end United keeper Alex Shaftoe, making his first appearance of the season, saved well from Mike Hardiman, Jerome Ingram, Ash McDowell and Jamie Comley.
It was Shaftoe, Wheeler and Perry at the centre of the main talking point on 74 minutes; a long kick by Shaftoe led to Wheeler challenging Perry for the ball and the Oldland keeper appeared to strike out at the United striker; however the referee saw differently and yellow carded both players and gave the Abbots a free kick!
