A Westbury second-hand shop has donated £1,000 to support the work of a local charity which helps children and young people with life-limiting conditions.
Second Tyme Around, on the High Street, is run by Dean Ransome and raises funds for local charities through its sales. Since taking over the shop, Dean has chosen to support Wonder Wards, a small Warminster-based charity which relies on public donations to fund its work.
The £1,000 donation will help the charity with its current appeals, including a campaign to buy a specialised wheelchair for Isak Palmer, a four-year-old boy from Trowbridge who lives with multiple conditions including a serious heart defect and cerebral palsy.
“Dean took over the shop from Ruksak when they moved on but didn’t have a specific charity to support,” said Wonder Wards founder Leigh Gilles. “Now, I am delighted to say, he has Wonder Wards!
“It is not lost on us that the shop raises funds through their own support from the good people of Westbury. So, by proxy, it is both Dean and the local Westbury community that is helping our tiny charity grow.
“We currently have several beneficiaries and projects that we are trying to help including Isak, Maisy, Yanis, and our Santa’s Grotto Appeal for several hospitals and hospices this Christmas, which we could not possibly help if it wasn’t for the support and generosity of the general public.
“Wonder Wards would like to say a big thank you to Dean, the Second Tyme Around shop, its wonderful volunteers and the Westbury community in general. Thank you!”
Wonder Wards does not receive statutory funding and relies entirely on donations from the public.
