After the success of his foraging courses and gardening courses in Frome, local author Dave Hamilton is going back to his roots to put on a course in Urban Self-Sufficiency on 14th and 15th September and Wild Food Foraging on 26th October.
For the urban self-sufficiency weekend course, participants will learn how to maximise big or small growing spaces and discover some of the key principles of sustainable horticulture. They will learn what is in season throughout the year, both from the vegetable garden and the wild. The course is suitable for both beginners and old hands alike.
During the fun foraging masterclass course, you’ll forage for food during a walk in the beautiful local countryside, learn how to identify a wide range of wild plants, as well as how to use those plants in a variety of dishes. Dave has been foraging since long before it was fashionable, and has led many groups on wild food walks across the length and breadth of the UK.
Dave experimented with self-sufficiency when he lived in Oxford from 2000-2005. These experiments led to the publication of his first book, the Self-Sufficient-ish Bible (2008) which was published by Hodder and Stoughton. He spoke about the subject on BBC Breakfast, Radio 4’s Today Programme and had a column in Gardener’s World and Grow your Own magazines. He’s taught at the Botanic Gardens in Bristol, Schumacher College in Devon and at the Eden Project.
