WITH the festive season in full swing, residents of Westbury are being urged to spread holiday cheer by supporting local businesses and shopping locally.
The town council is urging people to shop local to help independent businesses thrive and to maintain the vibrancy of Westbury’s town centre.
“Looking for the perfect gifts for your family and friends? Westbury’s local shops have everything you need!” says the council. “From unique treasures to handmade treats, there’s something special for everyone. By shopping local, you’re supporting the community and helping our brilliant independent businesses thrive. Let’s make this Christmas truly special – shop local and support Westbury!”
Gary Davies, owner of Davies of Westbury in the town centre, said, “It’s important to shop local to help keep the vibrancy of local towns, whether it be Westbury or any other small town, because you need that in all town centres. It’s important for residents, if you have a decent town centre it helps everybody, people feel happier and want to come into their town.”
The council has also shared a new video on its Facebook page highlighting the array of gifts and treats available at local shops. “Our wonderful town has something for everyone in the family!” the video explains. “From unique gifts to delicious treats, you’ll find it all in Westbury. Come on down and support our local businesses. You won’t be disappointed.”
To add a festive touch, the council has included a playful rhyme in their campaign:
“If you spend your money online,
We don’t know what we’ll do,
‘Cause we won’t stay on the high street
Without customers like you!”
The council hopes this message will inspire shoppers to explore Westbury’s independent stores and strengthen the local economy.
“Whether you’re look-ing for one-of-a-kind treasures, handcrafted decorations, or mouthwatering treats, Westbury’s shops are ready to welcome you with open arms this Christmas,” a council spokesperson said. “By shopping locally, you’re not just buying gifts – you’re investing in our community. Together, we can keep Westbury’s high street alive and thriving.”
