A LOCAL fundraiser was recently honoured by Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG) for raising over £1,000 for the charity.
Chelle Brichard, from Westbury, became a member of the charity’s exclusive ‘£1,000 Club’ at a ceremony last week, when BCUSG presented £1.2million to Bath’s RUH for a state-of-the-art CT scanner.
Chelle, who completed a skydive for the charity, was presented with a certificate by the Mayor of Bath, cllr William Sandry, for raising £1,430 towards the new scanner.
BCUSG Trowbridge branch chairman Tino Polledri said, “I am constantly amazed and humbled by the continuing efforts of local people, like Chelle, to support the vital work of the cancer unit at the RUH. Most recently, the £1.2 million appeal to provide a PET-CT scanner at the hospital which will provide local people with cutting edge medical technology within easy reach of their homes.”
The evening also saw the mayor present 19 other certificates of achievement to businesses and individuals from Bath, North Somerset and West Wiltshire who have raised £1,000 or more for the BCUSG.
The new PET-CT scanner will be used by doctors to determine what treatment to give a patient, and allows cancers to be detected earlier thus improving the success of treatment.
