Success for Lions bookshop six months since move

WESTBURY Lions are celebrating a very successfully first six months in the club’s bookshop since it moved premises.

The Lions Club’s bookshop moved across the road on Warminster Road in January and since then, it has been a great success.

Westbury Lion Nigel Coward said, “We were struggling with footfall where we were before but since moving just across the road, the increase in customers has been fantastic.

“The space is a lot bigger, so we can stock over 7,000 books of all different genres, we have a table and chairs so people can sit and flick through a book, we have a wonderfully big window which we fill with interesting and enticing displays – everything is a lot more accessible and the environment is relaxing and welcoming.

“We are very grateful to the owner for allowing us to rent the building at a peppercorn rent, without this we certainly wouldn’t be able to keep the bookshop open.

“We now have a committee who look after the bookshop and we have a few volunteers who aren’t Lions, but help keep it open.

“We’ve been blown away by the support from local people since we moved and we have had great feedback, which gives us confidence in the shop.

“Thank you to everyone who has been in and supported us and if you haven’t been in yet, please do come and say hello. We have a huge selection of books on a range of topics including gardening, cookery health and fitness, history, helicopters, fishing, science – we’ve got it all!

“Paperback books are just 75p and hardbacks £1, plus all children’s books are free! And of course, all the money raised goes back into the town, so it’s all for a good cause.”
