WESTBURY and District Cricket Club had another successful annual Women’s Softball Festival with six clubs in attendance – Winsley, Collingbourne, Royal Wootton Bassett, Chippenham, Frome and Westbury.
The event, held at the Frampton and Babel Oval at Leighton Sports Centre on Sunday 6th August, had three pitches, with each team playing three games against different opponents. The weather held off, with only a short shower after the first game, which saw everyone run into the bar to have a break filled with bacon rolls, cake, and drinks.
“There were a lot of memorable moments throughout the day, from multiple hat-trick balls, boundaries hit into the car park, and some brilliant catches,” said Hannah Dilena from the Westbury and District Cricket Club Ladies. “The Westbury Ladies had a fantastic day, with many other teams congratulating them on the success of the day and how enjoyable it was.
“It is especially great to see how much the sport has grown for women across Wiltshire, with many new faces attending the festival. We hope to see the women’s game grow even more following the success for the Women’s Ashes with sell-out crowds and the ongoing Hundred series highlighting the women’s teams alongside the men.
“Women’s Softball Festivals are a fantastic way to get started out in cricket. A fun, inclusive and social atmosphere where anyone can get involved. If you fancy giving cricket a go, we train on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm. Come along or contact us on Facebook for more details.”
