Westbury travelled to Sutton Benger with high hopes of continuing their recent run of good form.
Sutton Benger started the game strongly and put the Westbury defence under pressure straight from the kick off. With the Sutton Benger forwards controlling possession the Westbury defence worked tirelessly until finally the pressure told and Sutton took the lead with the first try of the game which was duly converted Sutton Benger 7 Westbury 0.
Again from the kick off Benger put the Westbury defence on the back foot and again crossed the try line giving them a 12 point lead.
Westbury slowly began to gain some possession and after some excellent forward play fullback and captain Nigel Kershaw was bundled over for Westbury’s first point’s fly half Arron Vaughan adding the conversion Sutton Benger 12 Westbury 7.
Westbury buoyed from their score began to pressurise the Sutton defence and after some excellent handling from the backs, Captain Nigel Kershaw stepped and shimmied his way through several tackles to add Westbury’s second try. Unfortunately Vaughan missed the extras.

With half time break over Westbury carried their belief into the second half, putting the Sutton defence under pressure, unfortunately due to persistent team infringements for offside, Westbury’s hooker, Jamie Comley was sin binned for 10 minutes, giving the advantage to Sutton Benger and with a man down Westbury’s defence held out until a well worked backs move added a 3rd try for Sutton giving them a 5 point lead 17-12.
Again the extra man proved advantageous to the home side who bundled the ball over the line 5 minutes later to increase their lead with a converted try. Sutton Benger 24 Westbury 12.
With Westbury now back to 15 they began to string some possession together and full back Nigel Kershaw completed his hat trick by tearing though the defence to cross the line, Vaughan adding the extras. Sutton Benger 24 Westbury 17.
With time running out, Westbury threw everything at the Sutton Benger defence but they held firm, denying Westbury any further points.
Captain Nigel Kershaw was happy with his team’s performance and was impressed with the attitude and determination they showed to come back into the game. Westbury next host Wooton Bassett at Knott field.
