The annual Edington Arts Advent Concert in Edington Priory Church takes place on Saturday 7th December, starting at 7.30pm.
Organisers said, “This year, the great mixed voice choir of Jesus College, Cambridge is coming to sing, the first time a Cambridge choir has performed for us.
“Twenty-six choral scholars and two organists will present a wonderfully varied programme of music written for Advent and Christmas, conducted by their Director of Music, Richard Pinel. The full programme is up on the Edington Arts website at www.edingtonarts.org, but highlights include works by composers as varied as Palestrina (an 8-part Magnificat) Tallis (Audivi Vocem de Caelo), I heard a voice from Heaven) and Byrd (Vigilate), to Matthew Martin’s Adam lay y-bounden, Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium and Bob Chilcott’s Shepherd’s Carol among other familiar carols. The concert also gives us the chance to hear Bach’s three movement setting for organ of his choral work Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland – a masterpiece.
“Candlelight, mulled wine and mince pies in the interval, singing and playing of the highest order – what better way to get into the spirit of Christmas?
“Tickets range from £20 for front nave (very limited availability) and choir stalls, £15 for rear nave (very limited availability) and raised sides, to £10 for seats in the north and south aisles. 18 under come free.
