Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of open air theatre on Saturday 4th August at Manor Farm for their annual Elizabethan Evening! The award-winning outdoor theatre company, Illyria, will bring their fabulous production of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ to Corsley.
Every year, Manor Farm opens its gates for theatre lovers to enjoy entertainment in the wonderful grounds of this historic Elizabethan Manor and 2018 will be the thirteenth year the event has hosted. As well as the theatre, guests are invited to enjoy an optional pre-booked two-course supper of local steak and ale pie with mash, followed by Somerset strawberries and cream – all served by wenches and serfs.
Who killed Sir Charles Baskerville? Can anyone prevent the same fate befalling the young Sir Henry Baskerville? Is a monstrous hound really roaming Dartmoor? Why is someone systematically stealing Sir Henry’s shoes? And how does a ghostly hound manage to leave vast paw-prints and other unwelcome evidence of its existence?
The original and greatest literary detective of them all, Sherlock Holmes, and his assistant Doctor Watson, tackle the most baffling case of their careers in this faithful, cheeky but chilling adaptation…
Historic Manor Farm, built in 1563, was regularly visited by Sir Walter Raleigh and was home to Sir John Thynne of Longleat. Nestled in the gardens overlooking meadows and ancient copses, the play is set on a terraced lawn against a backdrop of stunning views.
In 2011, Illyria were the first and only company to add opera to its regular season, raising the bar for major UK open-air touring theatre companies. Your hosts and entertainers will be in costume and you are welcome to join in the fun by dressing in costume too, but it is not obligatory. Arrive to enjoy the merry tunes of strolling musicians and begin the evening with your delightful sit-down supper, or picnic on the lawns, until the performance begins. Children are welcome and you can look forward to an all-round evening of fun and jolliment.
