Hellenic League Premier. Saturday 16th October Westbury United 0-4 Cribbs
WESTBURY’S high scoring run ended in trying circumstances during this tetchy encounter, played on a sunny afternoon at Meadow Lane. Cribbs maintained their position at the top of the league.
After an even start with set pieces and crosses being well defended at both ends, the visitors were then on top for much of the first half and led, courtesy of Nick Jones’ close-range finish on 24 minutes. Dan Price made a great goal line clearance and Ed Baldy saved from Ross McErlain to keep it at 0-1. United had a few fine moves towards the break, and they came close to equalising when Ashton Shanley’s free kick led to Ricky Hulbert heading into Liam Kingston’s arms.
Jones went close to adding a 2nd soon after half time, then Ryan Bole set up Shanley, whose fine 25-yarder clipped the bar! Things then went very wrong for Westbury! Bole was shown a straight red card, apparently for dissent. Then after having a shot well blocked, Callum Demkiv also saw red for a late challenge. All of a sudden it was 9 v 11.
Cribbs were completely dominant but unable to make their advantage count. Price and Shanley were superb in defence. Then the dam broke! Baldy made a great save to deny McErlain, but the same player made it 0-2 from the resulting corner on 75. Then substitute Dan Webb netted a late double either side of Steve Hulbert going close twice for United.
