THE Laverton in Westbury is working towards a greener future now its doors have reopened for groups, events and meetings with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Town councillors at their annual meeting last week approved a green policy for the listed building, along with revised terms and conditions for its hire, as proposed by the Laverton Institute Trust management working group.
Town clerk, Deborah Urch, told White Horse News, “The Laverton is finally coming alive again. The Laverton Institute working group have continued to work hard in the background to make sure the building is ready to receive its guests. This includes updating policies and procedures.
“The Laverton is a Grade II listed building and an important part of Westbury’s heritage. In addition to keeping the building in good repair, it is important to make sure the building and its contents are appropriately insured. We are required to carry out a full valuation of the building every four years.
“The terms and conditions of hire has been updated, this was following a recommendation from the (independent) internal auditor who felt the T&Cs should be signed annually by long term users of the building. We also introduced a section on force majeure clauses relating to things such as Covid.
“In January 2021 the town council declared a Climate Emergency and part of the climate action plan is to ensure the Laverton is as green as its can be. The new Laverton Institute green policy allows the staff to carry out easy-to-fix things such as replacing old style bulbs with LED lights, installing smart meters, bulk-buying to reduce the number of deliveries to the building and reducing single use items.”
