THE Westbury Doorstep Disco, which was raising funds for local causes during this time, has unfortunately been cancelled.
The singalong event, bringing live music through the streets of Westbury can no longer go ahead after indirect advice from Wiltshire Council, passed onto Westbury Town Council through a third party.
At this moment Westbury Town Council is still seeking clarification for the decision, particularly after the Home Office’s recent encouragement of VE celebrations to get people out on their doorsteps.
The concerns raised by Wiltshire Council Public Safety also do not corroborate with NHS advice for people to “spend time in your garden or on your doorstep, if possible, but stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from other people.”
We are particularly disappointed as our carefully thought through plans had strong support from Wiltshire Police who had initially offered to send officers to be present at each event.
Nonetheless, as a Town Council our focus remains on the wellbeing of our residents at this time. Our food service of 80 boxes per week, plus our Neighbourhood Support Line will continue to provide a safety net for our most vulnerable and in need residents.
Moving forward, we will continue to look for ways to positively impact the physical and mental wellbeing of the wonderful people that live in Westbury.
