A WESTBURY boxer’s fight for the Commonwealth title scheduled for London last Sunday had to be called off after an injury to her opponent.
Megan Redstall had been preparing to challenge for the vacant bantamweight title at York Hall, London. But her opponent, Laura Pain, withdrew during fight week with a shoulder injury. The news echoed a previous setback for Megan, whose Commonwealth opportunity last year also collapsed when her scheduled rival fell ill.
A replacement bout was arranged at short notice on Sunday against experienced fighter Klaudia Ferenczi. The fight went the full six rounds, with the Westbury fighter winning every round to secure a 60-54 points victory and preserve her unbeaten record.
Megan had spent eight weeks in camp at The Contender Gym in Melksham, balancing twice-daily training sessions with her work as a paramedic.
She says she’s hoping that 2026 will bring another change to fight for the vacant title while Laura Pain said she would like the contest rearranged once her injury has healed.
After the fight, the online boxing website FightPost said Megan “is maturing into a fighter who could win major titles in the coming years…Megan Redstall hopes 2026 is when the major titles start to happen for her. That vacant Commonwealth title will surely be a target again.”
