ORGANISERS have deemed this year’s Village Pump Folk Festival held at Westbury’s White Horse Country Park, a great success.
More then 3,000 people attended the festival, enjoying a weekend of top class music and a great atmosphere. The festival made its Westbury debut last year, as a rebirth of the successful Trowbridge festival that has built up a reputation for quality folk entertainment since it was established in 1974.
Top acts lined up across the weekend including Steeleye Span, The Proclaimers, Kate Rusby, Eric Bibb, Steve Knightley, Phil Beer, Tannahill Weavers, Spooky Men’s Chorale, and many more.
Clive Woodland of the festival committee said, “It was absolutely fantastic, everybody has come out and supported us and the whole community has got behind the event. The publicity we have had from local papers especially the White Horse News has been great and really helped the festival be a great success.
“This festival is special because so many people who work for it are just volunteers. Nobody is getting an income, except the performers and professional contractors. It’s not a huge business, but very good for the local economy. We’re really pleased with this year’s event.
“Everyone has been extremely complimentary about the venue, performances and just about everything. It has been an impeccable weekend.
“It was such a great event that choosing a highlight is difficult because it was all so good. But, personally I really enjoyed Steeleye Span.
“The weather didn’t affect the atmosphere even when we had a storm, people remained cheerful and enjoyed the experience.
“Compared with last year we had a lot more people turn up and we were prepared for that! We have no dates confirmed but we are already turning our attention to next year and expecting it will be bigger again, which we have the capacity to do.”
