Town centre toilets reopen following refurbishment

Westbury’s public toilets have reopened following major refurbishment. 

The toilets at the High Street and Warminster Road car parks are now open to the public seven days a week from 7am to 7pm, for a charge of 20p per use. Payment is by card only, with contactless credit or debit cards, as well as mobile payment services including Apple Pay and Google Pay, accepted. 

“The small charge will help contribute towards the cost of consumables, cleaning and the future maintenance of the facilities,” said Norman Burgess, contracts monitoring and procurement officer at Westbury Town Council. 

Westbury Town Council is leasing the toilets from Wiltshire Council for 125 years, with maintenance costs estimated at around £22,500 a year. 

“Westbury Town Council looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the new facilities and hopes they will be a valued community asset for many years to come,” said Norman. “Both locations provide baby changing facilities and accessible toilets, ensuring they are suitable for a wide range of users. To help provide a safe and welcoming environment, both sites are covered by CCTV in public areas.” 

The opening of the toilets comes after a delay following the discovery of additional work required to ensure the facilities met all necessary compliance standards. Once the work was completed, the council finalised the specification for ongoing cleaning and maintenance before undertaking a procurement process. The cleaning contract was approved by Westbury Town Council on 7th July and awarded the following day.
