WESTBURY Town Council are considering buying an emergency mobile generator which they say could allow them to help the local community in times of need.
The generator would be used to maintain a power supply for the town council at the Laverton, but also could be used to help power care homes and medical centres in the event of power disruption.
The council are currently looking at a variety of different quotes and the generator is expected to be available from next year. The town council received a £7,500 grant from the energy company, SSE, of which they will match, to fund the cost of the generator.
A spokesperson for the town council says, “The grant from SSE to purchase a generator is very welcome. The generator will to be used to keep the town council functioning during a period of power disruption (adverse weather or power outage). This will allow us to help many people in our community.
“The town council is committed to supporting vulnerable groups in the town and if the generator is needed during an emergency, we will support where possible. The town council will also use the generator at its events throughout the year.
“We are not considering hiring out the generator currently, as we are yet to purchase the generator. We are seeking additional quotes and hope to place an order soon, and we anticipate the generator will be delivered early 2023. Most generators are powered using diesel, but we are exploring hybrid options.”
