PLANS to build 145 new homes on land at Glenmore Farm have been met with opposition again by Westbury Town Council who say that they feel the developer hasn’t addressed the issue of access into the site.
At the most recent town council highways, planning and development meeting, councillors discussed the amended plans by Land Value Alliances LLP in their application for up to 145 homes on land at Glenmore Farm, The Ham. The applicant has been trying to build in the area since 2015.
Speaking at the meeting, cllr Mike Sutton said, “This is a massive housing estate and while this falls outside of the Westbury area, it will certainly impinge on the town as whoever lives there will use the services of Westbury and we have formally objected to this in the past – at least twice when it has come up.
“One of the basics that they haven’t seemed to rectify is the access issues, if you’re going to come out on that corner it’s going to be lethal. Not to mention that this area is the last green space between the industrial estate and The Ham.”
Cllr Sheila Kimmins proposed that the town council should oppose the application, “on the basis of their previous objections.”
The town council had previously objected to the plans on the basis that the development would impact greatly on the services in Westbury due to a lack of infrastructure in the town readily available to deal with the increased strain of 145 new houses. Councillors had also previously raised concerns of the site over water draining, traffic, inappropriate access and the design of the new properties.
The proposed site, which covers approximately 7.8 hectares, is bounded to the north by the West Wilts Trading Estate, Hawkeridge Road to the east, The Ham to the south east and existing residential development and fields to the south west.
Heywood Parish Council will discuss the application at a meeting soon. To view the planning application, visit the Wilshire Council and search PL/2021/03749 in the planning section.
