WESTBURY Town Council has been awarded funding from the Wessex Water Foundation, to support the Open Westbury Food Project.
The town council report, “The grant of £2,500 will allow the town council to continue providing essential supplies to an increased number of families and individuals in the community who need our help, because of the social and economic impact of the pandemic.
“The foundation’s Recovery Fund aims to support local organisations and charities affected by the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, helping them to support their communities and build resilience for the future.”
Deborah Urch, town clerk said, “We are so grateful for the grant funding which allows us to continue to provide food and essential boxes to those who need our help, giving them nutritious food to keep them healthy and personal hygiene items to keep them safe. We combine donations, surplus food from supermarkets and grant -funded purchases to ensure our most in need residents regularly receive fresh and non-perishable food, toiletries, sanitary products and much more. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity within our community; we have received numerous donations of different food products and this funding will allow us to purchase specific items which may not be donated or that we need in extra quantities”
The town council add, “The Wessex Water Foundation is a multi-million-pound initiative, launched in June 2020, which provides a dedicated funding stream for projects across the region.
“It is run in partnership with the Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Quartet Community Foundations and from April 2021 it will provide at least half a million pounds of funding every year to support local community groups, environmental projects, and charities helping those who are suffering the consequences of poverty through low income or unemployment.
