TRACTOR Ted is the star attraction at the Corsley Show this year, along with new events and popular favourites to enjoy on August Bank Holiday Monday 28th August.
Organisers say, “Tractor Ted needs no introduction in pre-school and early primary school circles. If you know children in this age-group you can be sure you are onto a winner if you bring them along to the show so they can revel in all the activities on offer.
“Keeping with our agricultural roots, Digger Tim will give his JCB a workout in the main arena and a local farmer or two will also demonstrate the capabilities of 21st century agricultural machinery in harvesting tasks like baling; which has moved on a bit since Poldark days.
“Smash Bash Piano Trash teams will set to in the main arena crushing pianos into pieces small enough to post through a letter box. The triumphant team will win a coveted trophy and a barrel of beer, generously donated by Moles Brewery.
“Moles Brewery Championship Tug of War will also pit local teams against one another, contesting for a well-earned barrel of beer so the winners can quench their thirst after strenuous efforts.
“Hold on tight for trailer rides around the show field that will give you a grandstand view of all the activities going on. Rides will start near the Tractor Ted area.
“A ride of a different kind will be offered by Mike’s Donkeys so youngsters can experience a spell in the saddle, meet the donkeys and other pets and animals that will be located near the Tractor Ted area.
“Children’s sports will get the main arena acts off to a fast start, followed by a mass tug-of-war, children versus parents. The event is generously sponsored by Corsley general builder, John E S Jones (& Son) Ltd who provide cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners.
“In other corners of the scenic show field site, you will find Frome Town Archers where you can test your skills and find out more about the sport that features so large in our English legend. The Food and Craft Tent is back on the programme, a happy return which adds a fresh dimension to show day. Local craftsmen and women will display their expertise at their own stalls around the show field.
“The Horticulture & Crafts Tent is always a highlight at the Corsley Show and you will be astounded by the excellence on display, along with amazing exhibits from National Vegetable Society growers. After a popular arrival last year, model engineers will display intricate replicas to study in the marquee.
Local photographer, Matt Curtis, will be taking photographs throughout the day. You can view the pictures and order copies at his stand in the Horticulture & Crafts Tent.
“The Vintage Vehicle Show is a big crowd puller and owners of these eye-catching vehicles are only too happy to discuss details with interested onlookers. The pick of the exhibits will take a turn in the main arena during the afternoon.
“Local band, Cley Hill Stompers will bring a buzz to the Beer Tent (a chance to sample Moles Brewery beer without bashing up a piano!) and there is a chance for a cup of tea and a sit-down at the Tea Tent.
“There will be a big choice of refreshments, dozens of stalls and activities to keep you amused, including the Horse & Pony Show, Dog Show and fun fair.
“We are so grateful to local companies, sponsors and advertisers who make such a valuable contribution to the show, enabling us to lay on a happy day out for all the family near the end of the summer holidays.
“Visit our website, www.corsleyshow.org.uk to find out more about the show and check out the big discounts available to you by ordering tickets online – the earlier the better.”
