MEMBERS of Westbury Running Club last month completed their first ever marathon at the brand new Bristol + Bath Marathon The five runners, who met at the club three years ago, started training together in February for the 26.2 mile race on 25th October.
The event was the first of its kind and saw over 6,000 athletes tackle a route from Bristol city centre to Stoke Bishop, then back through the city to Victoria Park in Bath via Hanham, Swineford and Kelston.
Teresa Wheeler said, “We had a really good time in the race; it was very challenging and hilly but an amazing experience.
“We all started running about three years ago when we joined the club, and haven’t done a lot of long distance running, but we signed up in February. It was the first ever Bristol to Bath Marathon so we thought it’d be good to do our first marathon at such a historic event!
“The atmosphere was incredible and being on closed roads with such lovely views and people cheering you on really keeps you going. It was quite emotional at the end when we could say we had actually finished.
“I finished in four hours 50 minutes – the target was just to finish the race and I thought we’d take around five hours, so I’m really pleased to have done it in less!”
