Westbury United centenary celebrations last year may have been cancelled because of Covid, but the club is still planning a big celebration of its 100 years of football.
The club is in the process of arranging a friendly match of the current squad against an invited Westbury Legends Team for Saturday 17th July.
The club is looking for sponsors for the match and has launched a raffle to sponsor the special Legends’ kit.
“Local businesses and people can pay £20 for one entry and £50 for three, with a draw for three winners,” explained organiser, Terry Morgan. “The first would be to have their name printed on the front of the shirts; the second on the back and the third on the sleeves.
“All sponsors would also get their names printed in the commemorative programme that we will be supplying, that will be given to the sponsors as a momento of the game.”
“If anyone would like to enter, please ring or text me on 07732 864085 or email me at terrymorgan1950@hotmail.co.uk. I am also on Facebook and Whatsapp.
“Please note any sponsors that want to donate are only doing this as a pledge for now. This is due to the regulations that might change. If the Government allows us to have these matches I would contact the sponsors much nearer the match date to arrange payment details.”
Currently playing in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, last year marked the centenary for the club who were formed in 1920 when Westbury Old Comrades FC and Westbury Great Western Railway XI amalgamated, hence the club name Westbury United.
A number of exciting events were planned before Covid put a stop to them – but the club are hoping several events can still go ahead this year.

The club is also arranging a Presentation Night for Saturday 3rd July at their CM Motors sponsored club house – providing government rules are not changed.
“Prizes will be given to squad players nominated by their team mates and the committee and helpers will also be recognised,” said Terry. “It will be an open night so any one can attend.”
