THE Meadow Lane pitch was in excellent condition for this match against Yate Town, and despite several days of storms and deluges, the match was played in sunshine and a gusty wind. Great credit goes to Nick Pearce and his team for their efforts.
Westbury started off by playing some lovely football, however, there was no end product and they were undone twice in five minutes by a moment of fortune and then a defensive error.
Home ‘keeper Jonny Hill saved well from Oliver Jenkins and Nick McCootie, but at the other end, Kyle Tooze and Callum Demkiv were unable to get their efforts on target after fine passing moves. Yate’s James Taylor scored the opening goal in the 38th minute in fortuitous fashion when his cross from the right sailed on the wind and drifted into the far top corner of the net.
Town doubled their lead before the break when Dylan Lewis was allowed time to pick his spot.
In a second half lacking impetus from either side, impressive former Bristol Rovers midfielder Chris Lines struck the crossbar with a powerful free kick.
Tooze came closest to giving Westbury a lifeline, but he blazed Callum Demkiv’s cross over the bar.
