WESTBURY rounded off their second Southern League season with a fine victory at Meadow Lane’s Platinum Hyundai Park.
Ben Starr was the best player of a good all-round performance, with the defence also holding firm when Bashley briefly threatened to draw level.
United played some lovely football from the off and several half chances had gone begging before the opening goal came on 15 minutes; Bevan Cross moved swiftly forward and produced a composed finish.
Cross nearly doubled the advantage but his lob over the advancing Ross Casey dropped wide of the target.
Bashley’s first opening came after the half hour; Joshua Bertie struck a free kick over the bar.
Home striker Harvey Flippance thought he had a deserved goal soon after the break when he latched onto Callum Demkiv’s low ball, however it was disallowed for offside.
The visitors had several more free kicks within shooting range, however all were either fired over the bar or comfortably saved by Sam Jepson.
Jepson, in goal with Jonny Hill unavailable, also saved Lewis Ross’ bouncing 25 yard effort.
Demkiv and Cross had efforts saved by Casey then Ben Griffiths fired the ball over when well placed.
Jasper Jones made it 2-0 late on; after a lovely ball in by Starr, Flippance’s attempt was blocked but Jones smashed in the rebound!
