Monday 5th July. Friendly Warminster Town 3-9 Westbury United
A goal fest at Weymouth Street in wet conditions more akin to those usually found when these teams meet in the traditional Boxing Day derby!
Warminster went close early on through Stewart Lisowski then Westbury turned it on in great style to race into a 3 goal lead.
Sam Jordan finished well on 11 minutes after being set up by Joe Stradling. A few minutes later Steve Hulbert saw an effort hit the post. Jack Biddescombe rifled in to make it 0-2 on 17 then Stradling finished through a crowded penalty area for the 3rd on 24.
Town pulled a goal back soon after the half hour, Francois Allen walking the ball in after intercepting Ben Griffiths’ back pass.
Josh Ferguson hit a fine 4th just before half time, another goal which was scored from outside the box. Allen had a great opportunity to score again straight after the break but his penalty kick probably ended up in Morrison’s car park!
Martin Johnson netted a lovely goal on 55 to reduce Warminster’s arrears to 2-4 then from the kick off Westbury attacked and Biddescombe struck a powerful 5th at the end of a fine move!
Jordan powered home a spot kick to make it 2-6 on 63 then 10 minutes later Griffiths hit a superb 7th!
Town’s Mark Wright finished cleverly on 84 (3-7) then as with an earlier goal United extended their lead from the kick off, this time Ricky Hulbert finished from outside the box (3-8)!
Westbury keeper Mark Bowden made two excellent saves then with the last kick of the game Dan Price drilled in a penalty after another foul in the home penalty area.
