WESTBURY United FC is all set for the 2016/17 season and the team’s fixtures in the Toolstation Western League’s first division were announced earlier this month.
The first team has been confirmed and is under way with pre-season friendlies. United have had one draw, one defeat and one victory in their opening games. A hastily arranged match at formidable premier division champions Odd Down on Saturday 9th July ended 1-1, with Jamie Jordan scoring Westbury’s goal.
Visitors Weymouth Reserves then ran away with a 4-0 victory at Meadow Lane on 16th July, after the match had been goalless until midway through the second half.
Then, in very hot conditions on 23rd July, United overturned a half-time deficit to beat Pewsey Vale 3-1, with goals scored by Mark Young and two for Conor McKay.
Going into the 2016/17 year the squad will be looking to better last season’s performance, which saw them finish 20th in the league.
The first team announced for the upcoming season is (pictured, from back left) Alan Crozier (physio), James Goddard (manager), Dan Moore, Jake Stephenson, Marc Scammell, Ben Forester, James Hounsell, Charlie Heydon, Nathan Hallett-Young, Matt Jones, Jordan Lawrence, Karl Freeman (assistant manager), (front row from left) Jordan Pinder, Jamie Jordan, Matty Mantay, Mark Young, Ian Groves, Grant Gunning, Tony McElhone, George Bendle, Ed Leeson, Dean Caslake.
