WESTBURY United went down to a narrow defeat at league leaders Wimborne last weekend which leaves the side in 17th place and just five points above the relegation zone.
The White Horse Men almost staged an impressive comeback with a late goal, but it wasn’t enough and Wimborne walked away with the three points.
The home side started the game well with a well-worked free kick which saw the ball lofted into the box where it was bundled into the net in the third minute.
The wind caused havoc for both sets of players and Westbury struggled to get into the game as a result. Just before the end of the first half, Wimborne went on the attack with a strike from just outside the box that ricocheted off the crossbar and across the line.
The half-time team talk seemed to work, as in the 61st minute, Jasper Jones slammed home a rebounded shot from Ben Starr. Starr did well to create the space for the shot, but luckily Jones was there to follow up with a cool finish following a good save.
Wimborne followed this up just eight minutes later as a long ball found a winger who found space before dribbling through the Westbury defence and squared the ball into the box for Wimborne to finish to make it 3-1.
Just six minutes before the end, Jasper managed to grab his second of the game and his 25th of the season after a quick counter attack saw a ball slid into the box which was touched nicely onto Jasper who finished confidently with a volley. The late goal wasn’t enough to secure a point however and Westbury United ended the game in defeat.
