Residents of Dilton Marsh will soon have their say on the future of the village as the Neighbourhood Plan goes to a public referendum on Thursday 25th September.
A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led document that sets out a vision and planning policies. Once approved by a referendum, it becomes part of the statutory development plan and is used by Wiltshire Council when deciding planning applications.
The Dilton Marsh Neighbourhood Plan sets out a number of objectives, including protecting the rural environment and landscape, preserving green spaces and wildlife, and managing future development. It advocates for limited and sympathetic housing, with a focus on sustainable, flood-resilient buildings, and highlights the need for smaller, more affordable homes. The plan also supports local businesses and proposes improvements to transport, including footways, cycle routes and measures to enhance road safety.
The Neighbourhood Plan steering group said, “The time has finally come to vote on your Dilton Marsh Neighbourhood Plan. After more than eight years and many consultations, we now have a final version of a community-designed and led Neighbourhood Plan, which has passed scrutiny by an independent inspector and Wiltshire Council.”
All registered residents will be able to vote either by post or in person at the village Memorial Hall (photo ID required).
