Residents from Watersmead Care Home recently attended the West of England Festival of Textiles (WEFT) at Trowbridge Museum.
The Festival’s aim is to highlight the history of textile production in the west and to raise awareness about contemporary textile artists, groups and students through exhibitions at the museum.
Residents from Watersmead Care Home in Westbury enjoyed their morning working with Nikki Ritson from the Trowbridge Museum.
WEFT is working with local community groups on the project ‘working as therapy’ and the project focuses on working with simple forms of weaving using a cardboard loom and studies have shown that ‘creating’ encourages a state of ‘Flow’ which helps combat anxiety, depression and stress.
Annette Ayles, the Home manager at Watersmead said, “The residents thoroughly enjoyed their morning working with different textiles and they are now proudly on display in the home.”
