Welcome to the ‘pride’! Leos member joins the Lions

A WESTBURY Leos Club member has become the first ‘Leo’ in the town to progress and become a member of the Lions club.

19-year-old Maddy Strout, who is the daughter of Lions’ club president Michelle Strout, was one of the charter members of the Westbury Leos Club at Matravers when it was formed in 2015.

“It was a real bonus for me to welcome Maddy to the Lions,” said club president Michelle, “as this is my year as president of the Westbury club, and also I am the Lions club’s Leos officer, who oversees what all are Leos are involved in.

“When this current Leos club started, Maddy was their first president and she has shown great commitment to being a Leo and has always been willing to turn up and get stuck in, working hard alongside the other Leos and Lions, to give back to our community.

“Myself and my husband Craig love being Lions and I think Maddy believes in the goodness that we achieve as a group, to help out others and she felt it was a natural progression to become a fully-fledged Lion.

“She is keen to get more involved with the youth side of our club and I’m sure she will be a real asset to us and I truly hope it will encourage more young people out there to come and join us, having fun and caring for the people around us.”

Lions’ club member Nigel Coward added, “The Strout family have been very proactive supporters of the Leos’ and Lions’ activities in the town, and both Maddy’s brother Reuben and sister Phoebe have also been presidents of the Leos Club.

“Westbury Lions has been keen to see Leos progress up to full Lion membership, as this strategy is core to establishing long-term strength in our membership and of course ensures that our deep ties to the community remain across the age groups.

“We are optimistic that Maddy is in fact the first of many of our ‘first year’ Leos, who will now start to join the Lions Club and continue our hard work in Westbury.”
